Archaeologists and heritage experts called for urgent action to protect the remains of some of oldest civilizations in the world and the UN cultural agency demanded an emergency meeting of the Security Council.
Syria refugee crisis nears ‘dangerous turning point’:UN
UNITED NATIONS: Syria’s refugee crisis is approaching a “dangerous turning point” as nearly four million Syrians face worsening living conditions in exile, the UN refugee chief warned Thursday.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres told the Security Council that “the nature of the refugee crisis is changing” and called for “massive international support” for countries that have opened their borders to fleeing civilians.
“As the level of despair rises, and the available protection space shrinks, we are approaching a dangerous turning point,” he told the 15-member council.
Close to 12 million people have been displaced by the nearly four-year war in Syria including 3.8 million who have fled to neighboring countries such as Turkey, now the biggest refugee-hosting country in the world.

GCC chief in Aden to meet Yemen president
Aden: The head of the Gulf Cooperation Council arrived in Aden Wednesday, the first foreign official to meet Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi since his escape from house arrest in Sanaa.
GCC secretary general Abdullatif Al-Zayani is expected to meet Hadi at the republican palace in the port city and capital of a formerly independent south Yemen, a presidential aide said.
Their agenda was not disclosed, but the GCC has voiced its support for the beleaguered president in his dispute with the Shiite Houthi militia that overran Sanaa in September.
Under effective house arrest, Hadi escaped Saturday and resurfaced in Aden, where he resumed his duties and retracted a resignation he offered last month.
Hadi has branded all measures adopted by the Houthis, including the creation of a presidential council, as “null and illegitimate.”
Yemen’s GCC neighbors rejected as a coup the Houthis’ sidelining Western-backed Hadi, and the UN Security Council urged the militia to withdraw its forces from government institutions.
Nightmares On Benin-Ore Road Before Goodluck's Tenure
twenty six-year-old Timi Adeoye graduated two years ago from the
University of Benin and was a frequent user of the Benin-Ore route.
According to him, “travelling on Nigerian roads used to be a
nightmare for me; I still remember spending twelve long hours on a trip
from Lagos to Benin regularly since I got admission eight years ago. “
“The memory of those trips still leaves a distaste in my mouth”, he continues, “but I had to continue because I had to go school.”
Since it is the major link road between the west and south of Nigeria, it was appalling that it was in that state of decay. From 2006 to as recently as 2012, anyone who plied the Benin-Ore route could have testified to its horrific state. The deplorable condition of the road aside, there were armed robbers infested the area, and travellers were inclined to always say a prayer to avert terrible traffic jams lasting hours, and loss of lives and property. As Adeoye aptly describes it, it was “hell on Earth”.
Popular columnist, Sonala Olumhense once said, “If you are a
Nigerian, chances are you know someone who has spent an entire day, at
least once, traveling the 140-mile Sagamu-Benin City road, or been
killed trying to do so.“

How we must adjust our lifestyles to nature: Welcome to the 'Anthropocene', the human epoch
Scientists have declared a new era on Earth - the
Anthropocene - so called because Man has become the biggest influence on
the biosphere. We must rise to the challenge, says expert Christian
Schwagel, and THe define Nature itself
We walked past a small shrine. Gnarled oaks formed something like an
entrance gate. Behind, there was a green space, a mix of woodland, rice
paddies and open meadows.Kaki
fruits, guavas and quinces hung from trees. A silver dragon plant peeked
out from underneath a bamboo. The scenery felt enchanted. In this small
patch of land called the "Hirabari grove", local people grew food, many
species of birds swirled around, and old trees made visitors forget the
surrounding city of Nagoya with its 2.3 million people. I had travelled
to this industrial city in Japan to participate in an important moment

How psychopaths hide in plain sight – a psychological analysis of serial killer Dennis Rader
As I entered the lift of my hotel in Wichita, Kansas, two other people joined me. Both were dressed as animals.
“Which floor?” asked the largest who was dressed as, I think, a biker mouse.
“8 please,” I replied, and we then stood in total silence waiting for the doors to close.
The biker mouse’s companion seemed to be a stoat, although it was hard to tell given that most of his fur was acid green. All I knew was that no trace of human being pierced either of their costumes.

Nigerian Army Have Inducted The BTR-94
The Nigerian military, which is currently gaining success in the war against the Boko Haram insurgency, received some new heavy armoured machines.
Facebook user Nazeer Justice Ibrahim has published photos of the BTR-94 armoured personnel carriers (APCs), saying that Nigeria is re-arming at an alarming rate.

According to him, the Ukrainian-made BTR-94 APCs are a
perfect substitution for Toyota 4×4 Hilux vans, which only are suitable
for “chasing area boys in Ojota, Lagos, or Yan Daba in Kofar Naisa in Kano.”
